We had a great night for golfing and the tournament was a lot of fun. Thanks to Scott Steiner for arranging the banquet and the staff at Stonehedges for a nice meal.
We kept the same officers as last year - Mike Scott - President, Scott Steiner - Treasurer and myself - Secretary. We voted in a few changes for next season. One of them is that the three officers will work together to make any rainout calls. There will be no votes at the golf course. If there is no notice through email or the Facebook group by 3:30 then you'll need to head to the golf course and any final call will be made there. A rainout can be called after we start. But don't assume it will be called and just go home after the clubhouse blows the horn as we may just wait a half hour or so for it to pass. Anyone who leaves before we officially call it will receive ghost scores (see below). Any match called before all teams play at least 5 holes will not count and will need to be made up. If a match is called after everyone completes 5 holes, then all uncompleted holes will be split for points and an average score will be used to calculate total and determine the winner of that point.
A minor change for the playoffs/mini-tournament will be made for next year. Instead of a three-week mini-tournament for those teams not making the playoffs, we will have three one-week mini-tournaments instead with teams taking the most points in a week winning that week's mini-tournament. This means there will be three winners (teams can win multiple times). The playoff teams will continue to battle for places 1 through 8 over those three weeks (each spot gets a different payout at the banquet).
We made a change to the ghost scores/rules when someone doesn't show up. Individuals that don't show up for a particular week will get at most 3 points instead of 4. The golfer that is competing against the ghost score will continue to golf against a net 40 score, however they will only take the points that they earn instead of a minimum of 6 points. This means there could be unearned points in a match (i.e. golfer A takes 5 points, ghost takes 3 points, 2 points are not taken by either team - 10 total for the match). If ghosts are matched against each other (both teams have a missing golfer) then each ghost only takes 3 points and the remaining 4 points for the match are unearned. If someone shows up late or leaves early, then their opponent shoots against the ghost score for the missed holes and the maximum three points are prorated over the missing holes (0.3 points per hole and total). The opponent again only takes the points they earn.
Anyone not completing all 9 holes for any reason (late arrival, early leave, mid-match rainout) needs to complete at least 5 holes to have that week calculated in their handicap. They will receive an average score on any uncompleted holes plus all completed holes to determine their total for the night and that total will be used to calculate future handicaps. Anyone who does not complete at least 5 holes will have their score thrown out for that night and will not affect their future handicap.
